The Research Development Office offers a range of personalized services to support the genesis and development of competitive research proposals.

Due to limited capacity, the full range of services may not always be available for every project. Priority is given to early career investigators; faculty from Biology, Psychology, and Earth and Environmental Sciences; large-scale projects with multiple investigators; and highly prestigious awards. However, we are always available for consultation and guidance. Please do not hesitate to reach out to discuss your plans prior to developing a proposal. Keep in mind, all external proposals must be submitted through your designated pre-award manager.

Our services include:

  • One-on-one discussion of research agenda to develop near-, mid-, and long-term plan for targeted proposal submission
  • Guidance on communicating with program officers
  • Review grant solicitation, prepare component check list, and discuss proposal writing strategy and timeline
  • Review and discuss panel feedback from relevant prior submissions to improve future proposals
  • Assistance with preparing and organizing supporting documents (including from external partners)
  • Ongoing (lay) review of scientific narrative content to improve organization of ideas and strength of argument and ensure best granstmanship practices
  • Coordination with pre-award staff to ensure alignment between budget/justification and other proposal components
  • Assistance setting up and compiling proposals in sponsor systems (grants.gov, research.gov, etc)
  • Project management for collaborative proposal preparation, including communicating with all external partners and their pre-award offices regarding the required documentation and authorizations, scheduling and facilitating research team meetings, maintaining shared files, and tracking progress on proposal writing tasks assigned to different team members
  • Where warranted, organization of expert mock review panel
